Think of all the fun you could have pulling a Mad Hatter Tea Party Bridal Shower together. There’s so much material to work with. And the bride-to-be would have a wonderful memory of a whimsical fantasy afternoon.
The novel “Alice in Wonderland” written by Lewis Carroll has provided adults and children a glimpse into a fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures. It has been enjoyed and fondly remembered since it was first published in 1865.
There are so many memorable fun fantasy events we’ll just look at a few:
1. Alice falls down the rabbit hole into a hall with many locked doors where she finds a small key that fit’s a small door that opens into a beautiful garden, but she’s too big to enter.
On each place setting you could have a decorated cookie in the shape of an old fashioned key or a decorated rabbit’s head or make an old watch face on a circular cookie.
2. Alice then discovers a bottle on a table labeled “DRINK ME”, it’s contents cause her to shrink too small to reach the key she had left on the table. She finds a cake with “EAT ME” on it and when she eats it she grows so big her head hit’s the ceiling.

On a table you could have small bottles of Limoncello (an Italian liquer) to give away as party favors. Each would have a label that red “DRINK ME” on it. Here’s a DIY recipe for Limoncello. You could have small individual cakes or cupcakes at the dessert table that have a cupcake topper that reads, “EAT ME” They could be boxed or bagged with a label that reads “EAT ME” and they could be taken home as a party favor instead of eating them there.
Another cute party favor would be a keychain with a small bottle attached. You could write “Drink Me” on them with Sakura ink markers. How about a chocolate mouse at each place setting. Napkins with card suites on them would be great for a funky theme. And how cute would it be to receive a cupcake in a box with a heart shaped goodie view top.
3. Alice becomes a guest at a “mad” tea party with the March Hare, the Hatter, and a very tired Dormouse who frequently falls asleep.
Round up those large teacup planters in different colors. Stack them and have colorful silk flowers in the top one for a Mad Hatter funky look or use delicate china teacups stacked with a floral arrangement in your décor colors for a more elegant presentation.
Go to estate sales or yard sales and buy up the tea cups and saucers. Each person could have a different cup and saucer or click on those pretty polka dot teacups and buy the set of six.
My favorite Mad Hatter item would be a small Mad Hatter hat for each female guest to wear and take home from the party. Here are some really easy instructions for making your own top hats in the Mad Hatter style. This would be one of the WOW factors to make your Mad Hatter Tea Party Bridal Shower a memorable event.
4. Alice is invited to a croquet game with the Queen. Live flamingos were used as mallets and hedgehogs as balls and Alice meets the Cheshire Cat for a second time.
If you’re planning an outdoor party or the weather permits you could have a game of flamingo croquet. Here’s how to make your own flamingo croquet set.
Go to the Dollar store and check out their ornate plastic picture frames. You might have to spray paint them to fit your color scheme. Pick up a few and inside you can have some of the famous quotes like, “ Sometimes I believe in as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast,” or perhaps “Down the rabbit hole.” Then lean them on the mantle or table. You could even have them hanging from the ceiling. If your party is outdoors glue to a small stake and stick them around the grounds where your party will be.

How cool would it be to serve your sandwich fixings stuffed into a carrot shaped crescent roll? You could use egg salad, crab salad, tuna salad–whatever floats your boat. Try a refreshing strawberry salad or a pear salad with candied pecans, gruyere cheese and raspberry vinaigrette dressing over a selection of gourmet lettuces. Crudites served in shot glasses make a pretty presentation and so do jumbo shrimp shooters with quacamole.
A selection of Alice in Wonderland cupcakes would be a wonderful conversation piece as well as a tasty treat or party favor to take home. You could have Meringue Mushrooms. I would paint the tops with white chocolate dyed red and under the caps with dark chocolate. Mmm
You could have so much fun with this Mad Hatter Tea Party Bridal Shower theme. If you try it send us some photos of your event and we might use them in one of our posts.
